Versatile guitarist, singer, songwriter Geoff Achison is described as equal parts New Orleans style funk, driving Blues and a little outback Mojo.
Geoff Achison has a reputation as a guitarist’s guitarist.
Having taught himself to play in the isolation of rural Australia, he has developed a blues/funk style all his own that can be delicate one moment and explosive the next. Unaware of how the sounds he was hearing on his limited record collection were produced, he invented some of his own techniques - without the aid of pedals or gadgets. At times, just watching Geoff wrench sounds from his simple set-up can be a show in itself. His acoustic playing is simply virtuosic.
Geoff also possesses a soulful voice that has evoked favorable comparisons to Joe Cocker or Warren Haynes. An award winning songwriter to boot, his live set features an infectious mix of catchy original tunes, improvised jamming and inspired versions of blues & soul classics.
Years of touring and performing has seen him share stages with such artists as Tommy Emmanuel, Dutch Tilders, Phil Manning and legendary US artists Jorma Kaukonen, Delbert McClinton, Hubert Sumlin, Clarence ‘Gatemouth’ Brown, John Mayall, the Allman Brothers & even the great Les Paul.
Geoff’s music is gutsy, organic and soulful with a singular style that has been forged and perfected from putting in scores of touring miles on planes, trains, ships and asphalt.
Geoff’s exciting international career sees him spending more and more time in the USA and UK. He won the Albert King Award in Memphis and was the subject of a BBC Radio special in London, and went on to accept an endorsement deal with the Gibson guitar company’s acoustic division.
Voted one of the “Top Ten Hottest New Guitarists” in Guitar Player Magazine 2008, Geoff already has a formidable reputation and calls One Ticket, One Ride his “Audio postcard from the USA.”
Jorma Kaukonen (Jefferson Airplane/Hot Tuna) has invited him each year since 1998 as a guest instructor at his Fur Peace Ranch guitar camp in Ohio.
“Geoff is one of the best blues guitarists I know with a completely individual style.” – Jorma Kaukonen
He moved briefly to London in 1997 and established a healthy UK following eventually recording a live album with a British version of his band "the Souldiggers" and returns regularly playing festivals, clubs and theatres winning more fans to his cause with each visit. Geoff's tours have extended throughout Australia, the UK and USA playing either his immensely popular Solo Acoustic shows or hiring the best musicians available to form The Souldiggers as he goes.
He has won a swag of awards over the years for writing, performing and recording. In 2007 Geoff & The Souldiggers picked up the Chain Blues Music Award in Australia for ‘Group Of The Year’.
